What are the type of pigments used?
A: There are different types of pigments that can be used for this process, and will be determined by each artist. Our artists use pure organic pigments for all areola tattooing procedures.
What is areola tattooing?
A: This is the placement of pigment beneath the epidermis of the skin in the areola area, otherwise known as tattooing or micropigmentation.
There is hair on my breast area should I remove it prior to procedure?
A: You may pluck or shave the hair at least 48 hours prior to your tattoo procedure or receive hair laser removal. However, leaving the hair untouched will not effect tattooing.
How long will it last?
A: Most of the initial fading will happen in the first two weeks. Unless exposed to the sun your tattoo should last a a lifetime.
Is there anything I can do with the scarring on my breast?
A: This is something that may be camouflaged depending on what your scars look like. This process works best for hypopigmentated scars (lighter in color than surrounding skin).
Will the needle puncture my implant?
A: No, the needle only goes into the dermis which is just 3 layers into the skin.
Will I be able to go back to normal activity after this procedure?
A: There is no down time with this procedure and you should be able to resume your normal activities. However, there are a few restrictions: No vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours and no soaking in any bathtubs, swimming pools or jacuzzi’s for a least 7 days after.
Will I need another appointment?
A: This process is usually complete in one appointment. However, in some cases, you may require an additional touch up depending on your individual healing process. If a follow up is necessary you will need to return in 4 to 6 weeks.
What will my after care be like?
A: The area will be covered with dressings and you will be given your aftercare and instructions.
How to choose your areola color and size?
A: When you meet your artist, they will work with you to determine color and size by first drawing impermanently on the area. Once the color and size is agreed upon, the artist will create dimension with color and shading, giving you a realistic nipple and areola. When the procedure is finished you will be amazed with the results!
Will I have pain during the procedure?
A: No. 98% of the time there is no pain in the reconstructed breast, for the other 2% we will apply a topical anesthetic so there is little to no pain.
What to expect?
A: The day of the procedure you will want to wear a comfortable bra and bring any photos of your breast prior to surgery, if you have them (not needed).
What to do pre-procedure?
A: Thinking ahead, there are a few things to do prior to your Mastectomy that will help with your areola nipple tattooing procedure.
• Take before pictures
• Think about your areola color and write it down
• Note the size are your breast and areola
